¶ 01 Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim.

¶ 02 Hon. Presiding Member, the Iran–America–Israel war that had been ongoing for about 39 days has been temporarily halted for two weeks through mediation. The ceasefire has come about following US President Donald Trump’s acceptance of 10 points proposed by the Iranian Government and Pakistan. We pray that this temporary ceasefire becomes a permanent end to war, that peace prevails in the Middle East, and that democracy is safeguarded.

¶ 03 Last week’s G.C.E. (A/L) results show that a student of Batticaloa/Kattankudy Central College, M.S.M. Fardan, obtained a Z-score of 2.5001 in the Commerce stream, becoming Island First. According to the Department of Examinations, he has achieved the highest Z-score in 30 years, a historic record. We extend our thanks and appreciation to the student, his parents Mohamed Subaideen and Sithy Faiza, the Principal Ahamed Lebbe Sabry, the former Principal Mohamed Aboobucker Nihal Ahamed, and the teachers. I also congratulate the students who brought honour to Batticaloa District by securing top ranks across streams.

¶ 04 In Batticaloa District: First in Engineering—Mevin Hari Meenushan of Batticaloa/Shivananda National School; First in Arts—M.L.M. Aadhil of Batticaloa/Kattankudy Central College; First in Engineering Technology—M.J. Adham of Batticaloa/Kattankudy Central College; First in Biosystems Technology—M.L.J. Jesha of Batticaloa/Eravur Aligarh National School; and First in Medicine—Judenimal Anusram of Batticaloa/St. Michael’s College. Your achievements bring pride not only to your families and schools but to the entire district. May you continue to excel and serve the country and society.

¶ 05 Hon. Prime Minister is present. Recently, you appointed a five-member Committee to review the structures of National Colleges of Education. The Sri Lanka Education Administrative Service Officers’ Association expressed concern that no Muslim member had been appointed.
