¶ 01 Chair, under Standing Order 27(2), I direct the following to the Hon. Minister of Justice and National Integration.

¶ 02 In July 1990, LTTE cadres abducted and massacred a group of Muslim devotees returning from pilgrimage, traveling on the Colombo–Batticaloa main road near Kurukkalmadam in the Kalawanchikudy Police Division. The victims—young and old—were abducted and killed on 12 July 1990 and buried. A relative, Al Haj Abdul Majeed Mohamed Rauff, a former Kattankudy UC Member and our party organizer, lodged a complaint at Kalawanchikudy Police. Case No. B/172/14 was filed in the Kalawanchikudy Magistrate’s Court. The Court ordered immediate recovery of the remains, protection of the site, and to proceed via the Office on Missing Persons (OMP) under international legal standards. It is believed around 170 Muslims were killed.

¶ 03 Hon. Minister: 1) Will you provide the necessary funds to the OMP to conduct an expedited inquiry as ordered? 2) Will you facilitate the use of modern technologies (e.g., drones, scanners) to expedite the process? 3) Will you coordinate with the Attorney-General’s Department and other agencies, and ensure the victims receive last rites according to Islam upon exhumation?
