¶ 01 A clarification: For every company invested in, gains or losses are of two types. One, unrealized gains/losses—the difference between average cost and current market price. For example, significant unrealized gains include Central Finance Company PLC at Rs. 3.48 billion, Dipped Products PLC at Rs. 1.3 billion. Unrealized losses include Asian Hotels and Properties PLC at Rs. 718 million. Apart from that, all others have gained. In aggregate, unrealized gains amount to Rs. 43.9 billion, being the difference between weighted average cost and current market price.

¶ 02 Next, realized gains—actual cash flows—comprising dividends and gains on sale. The total is about Rs. 22.28 billion. Examples: Access Engineering PLC shows a realized loss of about Rs. 30 million; Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings PLC about Rs. 120 million loss; Central Finance Company PLC about Rs. 138 million profit; Dipped Products PLC about Rs. 1.3 billion profit; Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC about Rs. 862 million profit; Balangoda Plantations PLC about Rs. 19 million loss. Thus, total realized profit is about Rs. 3 billion.
