¶ 01 Hon. Member, when equipment at major hospitals like the National Hospital, Colombo, breaks down, we obtain services from the private sector for the interim, as some companies need time to repair. Regarding procurement, before 31 March, the Medical Supplies Division submitted necessary orders to the SPC. A notable number of tenders for medicines and equipment are now in process. We have held discussions with local manufacturers and importers’ chambers. Any supplier facing issues can meet the SPC Chairman or Ministry officials; you may also direct them to us. We have streamlined the process to a more orderly footing.

¶ 02 On payments, we discussed with the Treasury last week and instructed that funds be released. Conversely, some suppliers also owe monies to the SPC due to past dealings. We have agreed on a mutual settlement path. Our objective is uninterrupted, quality medicines for patients. We are working to rectify technical issues in the process.
