¶ 01 Hon. Minister, PHMs are vital for maternal and child health. On child protection: three students of Mahanama College, Colombo, were reportedly subjected to serious sexual abuse by the school’s Chief Security Officer on Saturday, 4th October. It appears the Principal and relevant doctors have not taken clear action or referred the children appropriately; there is also no evident action against the security firm or the alleged perpetrator. Teachers who sought to raise it with the Principal were allegedly threatened. Parents have been discouraged from complaining by suggesting lengthy court processes. A protest has been called outside the school.

¶ 02 Please initiate a proper investigation, ensure protection, care, counselling and medical treatment for the three children, and take legal action against the perpetrator and any who obstruct justice. Though the National Child Protection Authority is not under you, I urge coordinated inter-ministerial action and a statement to this House after inquiries, given the sensitivity and gravity.
