¶ 01 Mr. Speaker, this is very wrong because you came to remove the old political practices, not to continue them, Hon. Prime Minister. Therefore, I respectfully request that you do not restart this process by reappointing Councils—your people have been appointed; I can show who they are—and getting fresh recommendations. We have no issue otherwise. I am asking: Why was the old practice followed of not selecting from those nominated by the Council, removing them, and instead nominating other people to restart the process? This is very unfair. It is wrong not to implement a decision given a few months before a Government assumes office.

¶ 02 This situation is not confined to one university. You know, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna, Senior Professor Sujeewa Amaraseena, was removed. Next, this situation has occurred at Rajarata University, at the Eastern University, and also at the South Eastern University. There may be other issues there; I will not go into that now. But, as a whole, reappointing Councils and calling for recommendations again is a serious issue because generally this process starts about six months in advance.

¶ 03 So, this is completely wrong because in that time some may even retire. Such a situation has arisen. Therefore, I raise this as an unfair matter. I would like to ask: what action are you taking on this?
