¶ 01 Mr. Speaker, I seek leave to make a Personal Explanation under Standing Order 27(8).

¶ 02 Following my speech in Parliament, Government Members have repeatedly alleged—without naming anyone—that Members have “sold their membership for money.” As the only Opposition MP representing Bandarawela, I must respond. I resigned from Parliament in 2019 due to personal matters, and many allegations were made against me inside and outside this House. The people of Badulla gave the right answer by electing me in 2025; I thank them.

¶ 03 Recently, after my speech, Hon. Asitha Niroshan Egodawithana alleged that I had deposited Rs. 900 million at the Bandarawela People’s Bank to sell my seat. If such funds exist in any of my accounts at the Bandarawela branch—or anywhere—he should state the account number and branch. If such funds entered any MP’s account, complaints should be lodged with the CID or the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption. Instead, the Government, with an overwhelming majority and control over justice and public security, spreads false slander and mud. I challenge any MP to name specifically, in or outside the House, who “sold” their membership, and I will respond in the media as well. If anyone can prove these claims, let them produce the evidence; otherwise, calling someone illegitimate is itself disgraceful.
