¶ 01 Hon. Deputy Speaker, the answers are as follows:

¶ 02 (a) (i) The NWSDB fully supplies piped drinking water to Trincomalee Town & Gravets, Kinniya, Tambalagamuwa, Kantale, Seruvila, Mutur and Verugal DS Divisions, and partially to Kuchchaveli DS Division. No piped supply yet to Morawewa, Gomarankadawala, Padavi Sri Pura DS Divisions, and parts of Kuchchaveli.

¶ 03 (ii) Yes.

¶ 04 (iii) Plans:

¶ 05 Project 01: A water supply scheme covering Morawewa, Gomarankadawala, Padavi Sri Pura and parts of Kuchchaveli (MGPK) using Belik Kada Wewa (fed by Yan Oya). A treatment plant at Gomarankadawala to distribute to all these DS areas. Designs and estimates were completed in 2021; land acquisition done. Work is paused due to fiscal constraints and will commence as funds permit.

¶ 06 Project 02: A reservoir across Periyaru river near Kumburupitiya to address domestic and irrigation demands. A pre-feasibility has been done by the Irrigation Department and detailed study completed.

¶ 07 Meanwhile, the National Community Water Supply Department provides drinking water through several RO plants via the Divisional Secretariat.

¶ 08 (iv) The Kantale Water Treatment Plant’s capacity is insufficient for Trincomalee Town & Gravets, Kinniya, Tambalagamuwa, Kantale and Kuchchaveli. A new Waan Ela Water Treatment Plant of 20,000 m3/day is planned to serve Kinniya, Tambalagamuwa and part of Kantale, freeing Kantale capacity to serve Trincomalee and surroundings. Estimated cost Rs. 20,000 million; implementation paused due to the economic crisis. Will proceed based on future allocations.

¶ 09 Additionally, two community water projects are under construction by the National Community Water Supply Department. Given limited resources, no new NCWS projects can start this year; however, upon completion of the two ongoing projects, parts of these areas will receive water.

¶ 10 (b) (i) Up to March 2025, all days’ supply was given to Kinniya Pradeshiya Sabha area; for the Urban Council, supply was for two days per week. Since March 2025, daily supply is provided to the entire Kinniya DS Division.

¶ 11 (ii) Up to March 2025, about 96% of the Pradeshiya Sabha area was supplied by the Mahamaru tower, and the Urban Council area by the Wellamanal tower. To supply the Urban Council area daily from Mahamaru required additional transmission capacity. Therefore, 355 mm HDPE pipeline (1 km) and 225 mm uPVC pipeline (1.85 km) were laid, and since March 2025 daily supply from Mahamaru to the Urban Council area is in place.
