¶ 02 This Procurement Manager awarded the contract with only a one‑month bank guarantee; then the contractor absconded without completing the work. [Expunged on the order of the Chair.] Concerning this incident, I ask—is it true or false? If true, ask him to resign immediately. The person was later interdicted, went to the Labour Tribunal in 2015–2016; the case was rejected, and then he resigned. Hon. Presiding Member, the State suffered a loss of Rs. 40 million. [Expunged on the order of the Chair.] Do you accept this or not? If not, present the facts; otherwise ask him to resign. ¶ 03 In 1989, from a bank in Digana, Kandy, Rs. 6 million and 54 kg of gold were robbed; from People’s Bank, Moratuwa-Katubedda, Rs. 8.2 million in cash and Rs. 6 million worth of gold; and from People’s Bank, Wellawatte, Rs. 22.2 million worth of gold. These are things the JVP did since 1989—documented in Wickramaratne’s book. I can give you a copy. So these are not people unaccustomed to robbery. Therefore I have brought a clear allegation. Will the Government that came to stop corruption answer this theft? Nothing is being stopped; the people have been deceived.
