¶ 01 My second supplementary question is connected to the question raised by Hon. Lakmali Hemachandra.

¶ 02 Recently, a number of cases of blindness and deaths were reported in connection with Peradeniya Teaching Hospital, Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital and the National Eye Hospital, attributed to several medicines. With respect to the problems arising from the importation of those medicines, the deaths and blindness, the responsible institutions and the importing entities should be blacklisted, subjected to penalties, and the monies spent on such imports recovered for the State. Such punitive measures are essential to deter recurrence. We expect your intervention to ensure that all institutions involved in the questionable importation of those medicines are subjected to appropriate sanctions.
