¶ 01 At present, information relating to nearly 1,000 has been received. Plans have been prepared for the rehabilitation of all of them. For the rehabilitation of temples and other religious places—churches, kovils, etc.—agreement has been expressed to obtain the participation of the respective donor boards. If the Government, our citizens, and Sri Lankans living overseas all join together in this manner, we can carry out this work. Sri Lankans living in the United States could take responsibility for a project; some Sri Lankans living in France could take on another project. In this way, we will allocate these projects to our Sri Lankans. We also intend to allocate such projects to benefactors residing in our country.

¶ 02 If our Government, the Opposition, the general public, and our friends abroad—all of them—come together and contribute, we believe we will very quickly emerge from this situation and be able to implement, as anticipated in the Appropriation Bill, the programme we have before us. Therefore, I conclude by requesting this Parliament to approve this Supplementary Estimate of Rs. 500 billion.
