¶ 01 Thank you, Hon. Presiding Member. We are debating the post-disaster situation following the extreme weather. During field visits we observed the Anaikattiyaveli–Samulaiyadi road badly damaged; many villages rely on it to travel efficiently. Where water courses cross, proper engineering solutions are needed in rehabilitation. The Magilavettuvan bridge has collapsed and must be rebuilt.

¶ 02 At Chettipalayam District Hospital, floodwaters rose 3–4 feet. There is also elephant movement beyond the fence line. About 100 outpatients use this hospital daily; I urge the Health Minister’s attention to repair and protect the facility.

¶ 03 In Thannamunai, houses beyond the boundary road are surrounded by water. One woman said water encircled the house but did not enter the house itself, so she was denied the Rs. 25,000 relief; I immediately informed the Grama Niladhari to reassess. While government promises timely relief, there are delays at the grassroots. We appreciate dedicated officers, but some Grama Niladharis allegedly rely on sub-agents for reports without site visits; a recent protest reflected such complaints. Please ensure fair, efficient implementation.

¶ 04 On “Prajashakti” (people’s empowerment) initiatives: we commend strong actions against narcotics, organized crime, and corruption. However, when appointing committees or roles, please ensure those defeated at elections are not empowered over democratically elected local authorities. That would create conflicts and undermine democracy. Finally, extend relief to all affected—farmers, fishermen, daily wage earners, and three-wheeler drivers. Thank you.
