¶ 01 Hon. Speaker, on behalf of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, the Tamil Progressive Alliance and the entire Opposition, I am pleased to extend our sincere congratulations to you. This is a country where Sinhala brothers and Tamil brothers — Eelam Tamils, Hill Country Tamils — and Muslim brothers live; a country where Sinhala, Tamil and English are spoken; and where Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam and Christianity are practiced. This diversity is reflected within Parliament as well. Bearing that in mind, and without distinction between Government and Opposition, we expect you to act as the protector of all and afford equal opportunities to everyone.
