¶ 01 Now, the time taken in this Parliament is not to present those ideas and proposals. What is happening now is getting down to the ground level — working together with Divisional Secretariats, District Secretariats, and the village machinery. MPs in the Opposition who are doing that are not even coming to Parliament these days. What do some in the Opposition want? They neither seek nor take the opportunity to go to the ground level; they do not go. They come to this House and try to create a media show. In truth, Ministers and MPs should go and work on the ground. But some wanted to spend the entire time conducting sittings of Parliament without doing anything else. Why is that? There is a mechanism that goes and works with the people at ground level. These things are done when those people are deprived of that opportunity. We saw how Hon. Dayasiri Jayasekara, rushing to tell lies about the 12th, was booed by the people of his own village. That is how they act. Let us stop that politics. With sincere intent, let all of us unite at this moment to rebuild the country. Thanking you all, I fall silent, Hon. Chair.
