¶ 01 Hon. Speaker, the answer to the question raised by Hon. Sivagnanam Shritharan under Standing Order 27(2) is as follows:

¶ 02 In Vadamarachchi East, there are two RDA roads. Currently, only a section of the Peduruthuduwa (Point Pedro) – Maruthankerny (B371) road is in a deteriorated condition.

¶ 03 The deteriorated section is from Km 15.000 to Km 31.435. It was developed during 2016–2019 under a work order implemented by Maga Neguma. Many locations of this road are now in poor condition.

¶ 04 1. The total length of the Point Pedro – Maruthankerny (B371) road is 31.435 km.

¶ 05 2. No separate allocation was made exclusively for this road; RDA roads in general were developed under work orders. The deterioration has been observed due to weak subgrade soil conditions.

¶ 06 The Internal Audit Division is conducting a preliminary inquiry into how this situation arose and will submit recommendations. Upon receiving the final report, if any parties are found responsible, action will be taken accordingly.

¶ 07 3. Following the Internal Audit Division’s final report, a full investigation will be conducted.

¶ 08 4. An estimate of Rs. 398 million has been prepared to rehabilitate and improve the deteriorated sections, and works will commence in 2026.

¶ 09 I have visited the road several times. Funds have been earmarked and work will start from January next year.
