¶ 01 Good morning to you, Hon. Speaker! Under Standing Order 27(2), I wish to question the Minister of Health regarding injustices at Akkaraipattu, Tellippalai and Chavakachcheri Base Hospitals, and ongoing GMOA trade union actions in the Eastern Province affecting the public.

¶ 02 A. Regarding Akkaraipattu Base Hospital and the GMOA strike: 1. Who is the current Medical Superintendent (MS)? 2. When was he appointed? What administrative grade is he — Deputy Administrator or Senior Administrator? Is the appointment lawful? 3. Has the Ministry initiated inquiries into complaints against this officer? 4. If yes, what are the details of those inquiries? 5. What are the demands made by the GMOA in relation to this hospital strike? 6. Are those demands justifiable? If not, what action have you taken as Minister?

¶ 03 B. Regarding Tellippalai Base Hospital: 1. Has a disciplinary inquiry against the MS commenced today by the Governor? Were you informed? 2. Have complaints against the MS been made to the Ministry previously? 3. If yes, what action has been taken? 4. Can the Governor inquire into a complaint against the MS? 5. If yes, are such inquiries conducted under the Ministry of Health? 6. A private bank account linked to the oncology unit has allegedly siphoned nearly Rs. 38 million. Are you aware? What action have you taken?

¶ 04 C. Regarding Jaffna Teaching Hospital: 1. Are both CT scanners currently non-operational? 2. If so, why was action not taken when the first scanner failed? 3. Are patients being referred to the private Northern Central Hospital for CT scans? 4. Do you accept that public funds are being diverted to that private hospital?
