¶ 02 New Methodology on Placing Private Members' Motions for Debate

¶ 03 Hon. Members, in order to ensure equal opportunity for all Members who have submitted Private Members’ Motions to be taken up for debate, a new methodology has been prepared with the approval of the Committee on Parliamentary Business, based on the same principle currently used to include Questions for Oral Answers in the Order Paper. After extensive consideration at the meeting of the Committee on Parliamentary Business held on 18.11.2025, it was decided to implement the new methodology from January 2026.

¶ 04 Accordingly, beginning with the first Private Members’ Motions day scheduled for January 2026, the number of motions to be taken will be determined by the Committee on Parliamentary Business, and selection for the first day will be based on the chronological order of Members’ names as appearing in the Order Book and its Supplement. For the subsequent month’s Private Members’ Motions day, selection will move sequentially to Members who are next in chronological order. If relevant Members indicate a preference among motions submitted in their names as to which should be taken up first, such indication will be duly considered.

¶ 05 I appreciate the cooperation of all Hon. Members in successfully implementing this new methodology designed to ensure equal opportunity for every Member who has submitted Private Members’ Motions.

¶ 06 Official Launch of Revamped Website of Parliament of Sri Lanka

¶ 07 Hon. Members, I wish to inform this House that the revamped website of the Parliament of Sri Lanka will be officially launched by me tomorrow, Thursday, 27th November, 2025.
