¶ 01 Question by Private Notice: Issues in Colombo–Mannar Train Service

¶ 02 Hon. Speaker, under Standing Order 27(2), I draw attention to frequent delays in the Colombo–Mannar train service causing severe inconvenience to the public and government officers, affecting punctuality and essential services. I urge immediate steps to ensure timely operation. Further, due to the lack of a proper access road from Mannar town to the railway station, passengers face great difficulty; I request immediate action to construct a proper road. There is also no connecting bus service between Mannar town and the station, forcing passengers to hire three-wheelers at up to Rs. 1,500 per trip; please provide an affordable, reliable bus service. Lastly, there is still no online ticket reservation facility at Mannar station; in this digital era, this is unacceptable. Please introduce online seat reservation expeditiously. These issues directly affect residents and officers; prompt and effective action is requested.
