¶ 02 Faculties of Indigenous Medicine and Registration of Traditional Physicians: Details

¶ 03 971/2025 9. The Hon. Rajeevan Jeyachandramoorthy asked the Minister of Health and Mass Media:

¶ 04 (a) Will he state— (i) the number of Ayurveda medical colleges in Sri Lanka; (ii) reasons why students are not enrolled now in the Sri Lanka Ayurveda Siddha Medical College in Jaffna (established in 1925, incorporated in 1941, gazetted in 1949); (iii) its current status; (iv) reasons for appointing university graduates without knowledge of traditional medicine to the Department of Ayurveda; (v) whether he is aware Traditional Physicians claim such graduates do not understand their issues; (vi) measures taken in this regard; (vii) whether approval is granted for indigenous medical colleges for advancement of traditional and Ayurveda education in the Northern Province; and (viii) legal/administrative measures in this regard?

¶ 05 (b) Will he also state— (i) whether an institution will be established to provide ID cards, medical certificates and degrees to Traditional Physicians; (ii) whether a recruitment scheme and salary scale will be introduced for them; (iii) reasons for lack of Government assistance; and (iv) whether he acknowledges the fee up to Rs. 5,000 for registration/ID renewal/clinic permit is a burden?
