¶ 01 Hon. Speaker, thank you for permitting me, under Standing Order 27(2), to question the Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government and Public Administration.

¶ 02 There are no fire service units in the districts of Mullaitivu and Mannar. Mullaitivu is a large district, and when fires occur, units have to come from Jaffna or Vavuniya, by which time properties are destroyed. Therefore, we request the Government to establish fire brigades in Mullaitivu. We made this request to the previous Government too, but it was not fulfilled. The same problem persists in Mannar: after shops catch fire, only then do units arrive from Vavuniya. The people suffer immensely. Two weeks ago, a cluster of palmyrah trees burned and people struggled to extinguish the blaze. Kindly consider establishing fire service divisions in both Mullaitivu and Mannar. Thank you.
