¶ 01 Next, I also wish to speak about the media. I would like to request that journalists be granted professional status with proper salary scales and a pension scheme. We saw what happened when suspects were brought to Sri Lanka; our correspondents were not allowed into the airport. Instead, Sri Lanka Police live-streamed the incident on their Facebook page. If so, who is doing the journalists’ job today? The police. Hon. Minister of Public Security, please note: on the one hand, police media statements tell media not to show photos of criminals; on the other hand, when suspects are brought, the police themselves rush with cameras to do the media’s job.
