¶ 01 Sir, I will be brief.

¶ 02 The AG has given advice under Section 393(2). The Secretary to the Ministry of Justice and National Integration is one of the best, most efficient officers. I am sure she has fairly replied to the President: “What can we do?” The investigations are conducted by the CID, which is under the Minister of Defence. Their responsibility is to investigate and provide evidence. If they do not — the case was filed in 2009; the file opened in 2010; now it is 2025 — how can we keep it pending? The AG has no special power beyond the law. Recall the Victor Ivan vs. Sarath N. Silva matter; Justice Mark Fernando gave judgment. You may refer to it.

¶ 03 I am talking about MPs’ pensions and retirement. Before we retire, we must ensure justice for my late friend Lasantha Wickrematunge. I say again, the Government attempts to cover up its inefficiency, later telling the public, “We did not refrain from prosecuting; the AG did.” I do not want the same to happen with the Easter Sunday attacks. Do not later say, “What can we do? The AG did not file cases.” I reiterate, the Government’s attitude in conducting this investigation is wrong and full of disinformation. Change this attitude and bring justice before we retire. We do not need pensions; give us justice at retirement — that is enough.
