¶ 02 You failed to deliver. You said you would purchase massive quantities of paddy. Maha harvest is 3.2 million MT and Yala 2.6 million MT. Yet you allocated only Rs. 5 billion for purchases. By last Friday, only 488 MT had been purchased. You lit up the whole country; MPs rushed; some rekindled mills you set on fire. I recall Hon. Wasantha Samarasinghe telling a rice mill, “Look at this problem; old mills are overgrown”—not overgrown, those were the ones you burned. I can list the mills you burned: Yatiyana—capacity 800,000 MT; Tebuwana; Hasalaka—capacity 500,000 MT; Mideniya—you burned; Ranahansa, Monaragala; Ranna, Unakuruwa; Agunakolapelessa—capacity 900,000 MT; Baddegama; Kirimattimulla, Matara; Nochchiyagama; Yaya 14/13/12/11 in Polonnaruwa; Yaya 01, Ela Hara, Polonnaruwa; Yahalir, Yapahuwa; Sakuni, Andamkulam, Kantale; Rathna, Trincomalee; Pallanthara, Modarawana, Beliatta; Sahana, Dammulla, Beliatta. These mills could have supplied 60% of the country’s rice—you burned them. If you want to name who lit the fires, speak in your time.
