¶ 01 Hon. Presiding Member, I wish to raise key points.

¶ 02 In Ampara District, heavy rains particularly affected coastal areas. In Karaitivu, there has been no water supply for 10 consecutive days; the people are in a dire situation. The water supply to Karaitivu has been completely cut off, putting them at risk. Repairs by the National Water Supply and Drainage Board are proceeding very slowly. During the repair of the main broken pipeline, the Board’s officers acted inconsistently. Because this is not being fixed, people have been without drinking water for 10 days. Considering this, the responsible authorities and the Minister must provide an immediate solution. If this continues, the people are prepared to take to the streets in protest.

¶ 03 In Ampara District, especially in Alayadivembu, Thirukkovil, Karaitivu and Navithanveli, floods severely damaged paddy fields. Relief must be provided immediately. In Alayadivembu, improper canals mean very poor drainage; proper canals should be constructed without delay. Alayadivembu is repeatedly affected by rains; please act immediately.

¶ 04 Our Hon. President is a capable leader; however, for 10 days, his advice has not been conveyed to the responsible Minister or officials regarding Karaitivu’s lack of drinking water. I urge the Prime Minister, the responsible Minister and disaster-related ministers to act immediately to restore water to the people. Thank you.
