¶ 01 Mr. Speaker, as per my answer, 712 people have been identified within the Nuwara Weva reservation so far, with more likely after further surveys. Among them are both lawful permit/title holders and unlawful occupants. You and I both know reservation grabbing has become an illicit trade, particularly at Nuwara Weva: former ministers and their associates hold prime lands, with hotels and even swimming pools constructed. This is not limited to Nuwara Weva but exists across many reservoir reservations. The name lists have been tabled. I suggest discussing specific cases at the District Coordinating Committee—verify deed numbers, whether lawful or unlawful—with the Divisional Secretary and Irrigation officials present, identify how permits were issued and which officers abetted. We are ready to assist in action based on those decisions. The Department has tried multiple times but has faced political interference. We will support remedial action.
