¶ 01 Don’t ask the people to be clean; first, you yourselves become clean. After you become clean, then clean the country.

¶ 02 One is bathing in a tank; another in a canal; another in Beira Lake. Someone else is removing bus accessories; another is removing horns — and then you say, this is Clean Sri Lanka. Hon. Prime Minister, I am not ready to waste time. I say this since you are listening: inform public officials and Members; issue a TOR; give guidelines; define the objectives of Clean Sri Lanka. That’s how “Clean India,” “America the Beautiful,” and “Clean and Green Singapore” were done — with process and vision. Start from pre-school — but before that, start with the 159 here; then pre-school, then school, then university, then vocational institutes. Do not misuse Clean Sri Lanka to meet your political aims by suppressing, intimidating, and threatening the Opposition. We too had that temptation — that was our mistake. Don’t do it.
