¶ 01 Reservoirs in Karativu, Sainthamaruthu and Kalmunai: Siltation (Question 1885/2026) to the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation: (a) Is he aware that the reservoirs in the Karativu, Sainthamaruthu and Kalmunai coastal localities in the Ampara District have been contaminated due to excessive nutrients, invaded by aquatic weeds, and rendered non-operational; that their depth has been reduced due to extensive siltation; and that, consequently, reduced water retention capacity has exacerbated flooding in the rainy season? (b) Will he inform this House whether proper assessments have been conducted on environmental degradation and siltation there; whether there is a coordinated programme to remove silt and invasive weeds and sustainably restore those aquatic ecosystems; and, if so, the expected date of commencement? (c) If not, why?
