¶ 01 Hon. Speaker, I answer Question 867/2025 to the Minister of Health and Mass Media regarding hospitals in Matara District.

¶ 02 (a) (i) Matara District has 38 institutions including the District General Hospital, Divisional Hospitals and Primary Medical Care Units. In 2024, Outpatient Department (OPD) visits totaled 2,160,903; inpatient treatments 237,205; and clinic visits 1,131,443. Detailed listings by DS Division, hospital name, type and patient numbers are provided in the annex, which I table.

¶ 03 (ii) Yes. Based on documentary evidence traced, Deniyaya Base Hospital is 127 years old.

¶ 04 (iii) Yes.

¶ 05 (iv) Steps taken: - Plans have been prepared to construct the hospital at a new site and forwarded to the Department of National Planning. - Requests have been made to the Treasury to allocate funds under Budget 2026. - Based on a feasibility study and project proposal, it is intended to construct it as a 300-bed Base Hospital to meet current infrastructure and service capacity needs. - Until the new hospital is built, stabilization of high-risk landslide areas and internal space management are underway at the current site to ensure safe patient care.
