¶ 01 RESOLUTION TO REMOVE THE INSPECTOR-GENERAL OF POLICE, MR. T.M.W. DESHABANDU TENNAKOON FROM THE OFFICE OF THE INSPECTOR-GENERAL OF POLICE IN TERMS OF SECTION 17 OF THE REMOVAL OF OFFICERS (PROCEDURE) ACT, NO. 5 OF 2002

¶ 02 I move:

¶ 03 “Whereas the Resolution No. Pa.29/2025 on the Order Paper of 08.04.2025 was passed by Parliament on 08 April 2025, and a Committee of Inquiry (‘the Committee’) was appointed under Sections 5(2)(d) and 6(a) of the Removal of Officers (Procedure) Act, No. 5 of 2002 to inquire into the allegations contained in the said Resolution;

¶ 04 And whereas the Committee has reported its decision to the Speaker on 21.07.2025 under Section 8(1)(a) of the Act, and the said Report was laid before Parliament on 22.07.2025;

¶ 05 And whereas the Committee, having inquired, has found the Inspector-General of Police guilty on Allegations Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 22 and 23 out of 23 charges in the Charge Sheet annexed to the said Report;

¶ 06 Now therefore, on the basis of the said findings of guilt recorded by the Committee and reported to and laid before this House, this Parliament resolves, in terms of Article 41A(3) of the Constitution read with Section 18 of the Removal of Officers (Procedure) Act, No. 5 of 2002, that Mr. T.M.W. Deshabandu Tennakoon be removed from the office of the Inspector-General of Police.”
