¶ 01 Hon. Speaker, when there is political involvement and pressure, the current Sri Lankan Government has the capacity to commence investigations and hold people accountable, as reflected in the final report of the Committee appointed to investigate, inquire and report on the allegations seeking the removal of Mr. R.M.W. Deshabandu Tennakoon from the post of IGP.

¶ 02 It is painful that in this country some receive justice, protection and rights, while others receive permanent injustice. Swift inquiries against abuse of power do not occur regarding the violence committed by Sri Lankan governments against Tamils—the massacres preserved in over a hundred skeletons, the disappearances of our relatives surrendered at the end of the war, and the genocide that happened then. When will there be investigations? When will justice be delivered? As with the IGP case, the same urgency, transparency, honesty and immediacy must be applied to Tamil issues too.

¶ 04 When the inquiry into the Police was underway, regarding the murder of the Weligama Sergeant Uppul, Deputy IGP Gunandavadu Nishantha de Soysa stated that having the Police investigate was wrong and, for transparency, another should be appointed to investigate. In other words, he said it is improper for members of the same team to investigate themselves. That is proper procedure. How can we accept the accused investigating the crime? When consecutive governments commit genocidal acts and systematic ethnic destruction against us, the injustices you inflict on us cannot be accepted.
