¶ 01 In the present situation that has arisen, from Chairmen of Local Authorities up to Members of Parliament, there is a grave insecurity when they perform their duties and deliver public service. Today a situation has developed where state underworld and state terrorism are swallowing society. Months ago, we requested a risk assessment—known as MIMD—regarding the security of Local Authority Members, Chairmen of Local Authorities and Members of Parliament. Under these circumstances, we want to know when this assessment will be made and when adequate protection will be provided.

¶ 02 Also, when will the killers of the Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman who was assassinated in broad daylight be apprehended? He had written to the IGP requesting protection. It is clear the underworld has engulfed our society. In a situation of state terrorism and a state underworld operating, how can people’s representatives carry out their duties? Therefore, please speak to the IGP and ensure proper protection to the 22 million people of this country and to the people’s representatives as well. [Placed in the Library.]
