¶ 01 asked the Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education:

¶ 02 (a) Will she state— (i) whether school committees have been established to implement compulsory education regulations for children aged 5-16 years in government schools in the Western Province; (ii) whether students who attend school intermittently, those absent for prolonged periods, and those who have dropped out have been identified; and (iii) if so, the number of such students, separately?

¶ 03 (b) Will she also state— (i) whether students with low achievement and those with special educational needs in government schools in the Western Province have been identified; (ii) the officers appointed to identify such children; (iii) the number identified as having low achievement levels; (iv) the programme implemented for children who require special education; (v) whether there is a regulatory programme for readmission of students who leave school; and (vi) if so, what the programme is?
