¶ 01 Hon. Speaker, although I am not the Member who asked the question, I wish to seek a clarification from the Hon. Vijitha Herath, Minister. This is important for our country. Former colonial powers are now being urged to provide reparations for economic harm during colonization. Countries formerly under imperial rule are pursuing international efforts to obtain reparations. I wish to draw the Government’s attention to this. Some African countries are attempting this; we too should consider it. In India, Congress MP Dr. Shashi Tharoor, an expert on this subject, delivered a notable lecture at Oxford. Based on such initiatives, Sri Lanka should pursue a programme to obtain reparations for specific wrongs during colonial rule.
