¶ 01 Hon. Presiding Member, I support the Adjournment Motion by Hon. Samanmali Gunasingha. A government that truly cares about children—the nation’s future—must act on this.

¶ 02 In many urban, rural, and especially estate areas, when children return from school there is no protection. Parents leave for work in the morning and return late; during the critical after-school hours children are exposed to risks, including sexual violence against girls. We must safeguard their education, health and culture. Establishing safe spaces is a hallmark of a good state. This program should cover not only urban but also plantation areas. By engaging children after school in sports, education and cultural activities, we can guide them and keep them away from harmful influences. I therefore strongly support this Motion. Thank you.
