¶ 01 Thank you. These housing schemes were initiated island-wide during the Good Governance Government when Hon. Sajith Premadasa was Minister of Housing. After 2019, the Gotabaya Rajapaksa administration, seemingly to spite Sajith Premadasa, left many schemes incomplete, leaving families in limbo and some in debt because further tranches were tied to progress. In Batticaloa—Porativu Pattu, Vakarai, Vavunativu, and elsewhere—many houses remain half-built. Your answer says “when allocations come, we can do it”, but people are without homes and burdened with debts to the NHDA. We earlier asked the NHDA at least to complete the first phase; it did not happen. Now you say the same—this is not satisfactory. A responsible Government should commit to a timeline—six months, one year, or by end-2025—or state clearly if it cannot. Can you specify a timeframe?
