The Hon. Jagath Vithana

¶ 01 Hon. Deputy Chair, due to the unsuitability of the site selected for the waste management centre for the Mathugama Pradeshiya Sabha, residents of Athulathmudaligama face serious health and environmental issues. I seek answers from the Hon. Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government to the following:

¶ 02 01. As there is no proper site for waste disposal, a strong stench is emitted and flies and mosquitoes have increased. Will immediate measures be taken to stop this?

¶ 03 02. Piles of garbage on roadsides impede daily travel. Will steps be taken to arrange proper removal?

¶ 04 03. A well of the community water scheme used by residents is adjacent to the waste management site. Do you accept the risk of wastewater contamination due to this recycling centre?

¶ 05 04. As people face severe distress and health threats, will you intervene, inspect the site and arrange for the Land Reforms Commission to provide a suitable land expeditiously for proper waste management?

¶ 06 Hon. Deputy Chair, there are about five schools with around 20,000 children within 600 metres of the garbage pit. Please provide a speedy solution; this is very close to the town. There is adequate LRC land; some have been forcefully occupied, but other LRC lands are available. Please provide land.
