¶ 01 Hon. Minister, I previously raised a question in Parliament regarding SANASA in the Gampaha District. I directed it to the Minister of Public Security because there have been a large number of complaints from depositors of that society. Approximately 200 complaints have been submitted. Now, cases have also been filed. As stated, there is a major issue regarding a large sum of money not being received by depositors. As your answer mentions, contrary to the law and not in line with SMDO, the SANASA bank has invested in certain companies, and the Department of Co-operative Development has reviewed this and initiated legal action.

¶ 02 Primarily, the Department of Co-operative Development must accept responsibility for failing to carry out the necessary supervision properly at the earliest stage. Therefore, we should not limit ourselves to letters back and forth; we need concrete action, because a large number of depositors have been unfairly treated. What exact action can we take? If we entirely blame the Department of Co-operative Development, that creates a big problem for the officers in that institution. I believe there was heavy political interference by the previous political authority, and that is why the system collapsed.
