¶ 01 Hon. Speaker, on behalf of the Minister of Health, I answer:

¶ 02 1. Steps required to meet the needs of Kilinochchi Hospital are being taken. No equipment will be transferred to other hospitals.

¶ 03 2. Under the Netherlands-funded DRIVE project to strengthen health services in the Northern Province, a specialized Gynaecology Unit at Kilinochchi District General Hospital was constructed. Construction began in 2019, and the unit was handed over to the hospital on 2024.08.08. Allocations: EUR 7.2 million for construction and EUR 8 million for equipment—approximately LKR 3,800 million. The investment (2019–2024) is 65% loan and 35% grant.

¶ 04 3. Expansion of staff at Kilinochchi Hospital is underway and necessary approvals are being sought. The identified cadre numbers are provided in the annex (placed in the Library). Kilinochchi District General Hospital is under the Northern Provincial Council (NPC). Recruitment is done considering service needs, and officers seconded to the NPC are deployed to Kilinochchi DG Hospital by the NPC.

¶ 05 4. No such decision has been taken; i.e., no decision to allocate equipment to other hospitals.

¶ 06 5. Upon cadre approval, recruitments will be effected without delay. Services of the specialized Gynaecology Unit have already commenced, and will be further expanded in the future.
