¶ 01 Train Services to North and East: Income from 2012–2019

¶ 02 Asked the Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development: (a) Will he state— (i) whether he is aware that the Sri Lanka Railways receives a substantial economic contribution from the Northern and the Eastern Provinces; (ii) the total income of the Sri Lanka Railways and the income received from the Northern Province and the Eastern Province each in each year from 2012 to 2019, separately; and (iii) the number of stationmasters and other employees working at the railway stations in the Northern Province, separately as Sinhala-speaking employees and Tamil-speaking employees? (b) Will he also state the— (i) total number of railway stations in the Northern and the Eastern Provinces; (ii) breakdown of the said number, separately in terms of main railway stations and sub-railway stations; (iii) number of main railway stations and the number of sub-railway stations from Vavuniya to Kankesanthurai and from Medawachchiya to Talaimannar, separately; (iv) names of the destinations for which first-class sleeping compartment facilities are available; and (v) reasons for not providing first-class sleeping compartment facilities to the Jaffna-bound trains so far? (c) If not, why?
