¶ 01 Hon. Speaker, my first supplementary is this. In Nuwara Eliya District, where people lack even small plots to live on, we note troubling matters in the report presented by the Hon. Deputy Minister. Specifically, in the Ambagamuwa Divisional Secretariat area, around “Wewewalthalawa” about 50 acres have been taken over, it appears irregularly, by former MP Wadiwel Suresh, and work is ongoing. Adjacent land there has been set aside—about 50 acres—by Mr. Upali Liyanage, former Chairman of the Lotteries Board. Further, in the Kotmale (eastern section), in the Frotoft estate, former MP S. Thondaman (Sathasivam) has taken about 16 acres. Former MP Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has around 50 acres in Talawakelle. Near Magastota estate in Nuwara Eliya, Mr. Maginda (Manginda) Ananda Aluthgamage has three plots of 10 acres each; behind Ashokarama Temple in Bowaeliya, 10 acres; and near the foot of Lovers’ Leap waterfall, 10 acres.
