¶ 01 Please allow me to conclude, Hon. Presiding Member; deduct that time from the Opposition’s allotment.

¶ 02 There is evidence. Hon. Presiding Member, there is ample evidence to enable the Attorney General’s Department to file indictments in the High Court. From 2020 to 2024, many attempts were made to suppress evidence. But even today the evidence remains secure because there are still a few honest police officers with integrity and character. Today, Shani Abeysekara and Ravi Seneviratne hold state appointments under this Government. They were honest officers. Not ignoring the toil of hundreds of officers, there is sufficient evidence to indict two—maybe three—persons; perhaps IP Sugathapala is the best witness on pressure brought to bear and related issues. With over 30 years of experience, I can say: make Sugathapala an eyewitness and indict the others—there is enough evidence.

¶ 03 Hon. Presiding Member, this is a grave and unfortunate situation. Reverse it and deliver justice—to our friend, to the courageous journalist Lasantha. Even if there is an Executive President and 159 MPs, backbone is not shown by numbers or systems but by action. If there is any hope left among citizens about rule of law, please act under due process to indict those against whom evidence exists and ensure justice.
