¶ 01 Hon. Deputy Chairperson of Committees, it has been about six years since the Easter Sunday bomb attacks. I am grateful for the opportunity to speak in this debate linked to the Motion brought today with the intention of ensuring justice.

¶ 02 I table for the benefit of investigators the Malalgoda Committee report appointed immediately after the attack; the report of the committee chaired by Judge Imam appointed to investigate the Channel 4 broadcast; and the oral answers given by former DMI head, Chula Kodituwakku, before the Presidential Commission.

¶ 03 The Malalgoda Report is very useful for CID officers; there are many points in it. The Imam Report too contains helpful points. The oral answers of Mr. Kodituwakku also include many matters beneficial to investigating officers.

¶ 04 We all want to catch the mastermind of the Easter Sunday bombings. Many speakers dwelt on historical incidents; but on Easter Sunday we both agree it was a conspiracy. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, while in Opposition, repeatedly stated in Parliament that this was orchestrated by a political hand and that Saharan’s group was steered by an element within the State. On that we have no disagreement; we too say it was a conspiracy and that a part of the State is behind it. You promised during the Presidential Election to catch that element. We too gave that promise. Both sides gave the same promise. The people believed your side more than ours, hence entrusted you to catch the mastermind of the Easter Sunday bombings.
