¶ 01 This is a pressing issue raised continuously. Fertilizer policy disruptions weakened agriculture, including tea. Last year we provided tea fertilizer, though there were concerns about delays and supplier choices. We obtained Cabinet approval for a new distribution mechanism. For 2025, the Tea Board has allocated Rs. 2,000 million for fertilizer support. Smallholders are 75% of the tea sector; we plan Rs. 200 million in smallholder fertilizer assistance this year, delivered via QR code. Registered fertilizer companies, including the State Fertilizer Corporation and those registered with the National Fertilizer Secretariat, will supply against the QR. We will commence issuance on the 26th of this month at Matugama, Kalutara, to expedite delivery this season.
