¶ 01 Question 1289/2025 - Lands belonging to Land Reform Commission: Transfer

¶ 02 (a) (i) Under the Land Reform Law, No. 1 of 1972, the declared extent of land is 1,418,318 acres, 0 roods, 37 perches; and under the Land Reform (Amendment) Law, No. 39 of 1975, the declared extent is 418,754 acres, 0 roods, 28 perches.

¶ 03 Of the above, lands vested in the Land Reform Commission (LRC) under the amended Law No. 1 of 1972 are allocated at district level; however, the total extent vested at the point of takeover has not been fully measured. The detailed district-wise extents are provided in Annexure 832, which has been placed in the Library.

¶ 04 At present, identified lands are being surveyed and mapped in collaboration with the Department of Survey.

¶ 05 Although these lands were acquired under the 1972 Law, over the years comprehensive surveys and proper documentation were often not completed. We are now intervening to correct and regularize these records.

¶ 06 (ii) Action is taken in terms of the provisions of the Land Reform Law No. 1 of 1972, as amended, together with Control Circular No. 2024/03 relating to alienation.

¶ 07 (iii) The Land Reform Commission does not issue “transfer certificates.”

¶ 08 (iv) Not applicable.

¶ 09 (v) The Land Reform Law No. 1 of 1972 has been amended as follows: 1. Land Reform (Amendment) Law, No. 39 of 1975 2. Land Reform (Amendment) Act, No. 14 of 1981 3. Land Reform (Special Provisions) Act, No. 39 of 1981 4. Land Reform (Special Provisions) Act, No. 14 of 1986 5. Land Reform (Special Provisions) (Amendment) Act, No. 18 of 1986
