¶ 01 Hon. Speaker, I raise this as the second supplementary. Recently, under the chairmanship of the Hon. Minister, there was a discussion with trade unions, particularly members of the United National Free Employees’ Union. At that time, the union’s Secretary, Mr. Saminda Gamage, was assaulted, and the union’s President, Mr. Priyantha Madukumar, was locked in a room and the data on his phone erased. Hon. Minister, I wish to ask about this. In the past, your side took 23,000 CEB employees to the streets to protest for worker rights under the banner of protecting State institutions. On a day like today, it is unjust and illegal to assault trade union leaders who come for such a discussion. Please conduct a proper investigation into the assault on Mr. Saminda Gamage and the forcible seizure and data deletion from Mr. Priyantha Madukumar’s phone. An impartial inquiry is essential, as they came to discuss on behalf of 23,000 employees.
